People say we rescued Max but in all honesty, he truly rescued us! When Max came to us, we had just lost our beloved dog, Abbi of 14 years and little did we know our beautiful kitty Smokey would get her wings shortly after. We were heart broken and vowed no more pets for a while. It’s funny how fate lends a hand in time of sorrow. My brother calls and said he has to travel for several weeks and could we take the dog he rescued, Max for a month. Although we hesitated, we ended up agreeing and Max came for a visit. It didn’t take us long to figure out how smart, loving and “chill” he was. We fell in love within days. Time went fast and before we knew it, my brother was back and we were dreading the call that he was coming to pick him up.Max had become our family in those few short weeks and to see go, well another heart break coming.Much to our surprise and delight, my brother calls and announces his job is changing and he won’t be able to keep Max. My husband could not get to the phone fast enough to tell him that we will keep Max. From that moment forward, after 3 different homes, Max would stay with us in his forever home of 12 years.Max’s passion was orange tennis balls and car rides. He loved them both! He would play and eat at the same time. It was like he didn’t want to miss a moment of either so he combined the activities! LOL!He was gentle, great with other dogs and children and always wanted to please us. He never complained. He went with us almost everywhere. To grandma’s house every weekend, to friends, the store and he always managed to turn on the handsome charm and bribe a hamburger if we hit McDonald’s. He would howl when you said hello and greeted us at the back door every night. A total bed hog and a bit pushy when it came to his bedtime treat. We lovingly nicknamed him Maxi the Millionaire because he made us feel like a million dollars every day with his love and funny stunts. Sadly, Max got his wings this past weekend and our hearts are broken in a million pieces. We loved him beyond words. Despite our heavy hearts, we wouldn’t change a thing of the last 12 years. We are so very blessed that we found each other and that we took this wonderful ride together!
