Started in 2007 at Lollypop Farm shelter. Someone abandoned a poor young husky at the door, his name was ‘Michelob’ later to be renamed ‘Sampson’ by Lollypop staff workers. Eventually time passed and no one wanted the husky, soon he was reaching “too much” time spent at the shelter and they would put him to sleep…
This was when my mother and I visited to find a puppy, we looked high and low. Our expectations of finding the “right” puppy was almost gone, until I saw him in his kennel. He was a beautiful white with black husky mix, sulking in the corner crying, no one wanting him. I read a sign that said “warning bites” and not caring, I slide my hands past his kennel and started petting him. First thing he did was lick my hand and lean on me, he got excited and stood on two legs and stared with his blue eyes directly into mine. He licked me and then we requested a meeting with him, against all the warnings from the staff. We anxiously waited and then finally he came through the door rushing fast at us, my mother with fear and excitement surged within me. He instantly stood on two legs against my mom and looked into her eyes… Then suddenly licked her face and wagged his fluffy tail elegantly. He came excitedly to me and we embraced each other. Followed by he ran around the room in excitement and jumped on a chair. So we told the staff worker “this is the one” and while she claimed he was aggressive we adopted him. On the car ride home, he was sitting on the back seat snuggling me.
At home we all entered very happily with him, but noticed he was terrified of stairs. So I picked him up and carried him up the stairs like a baby. My brother and my sister-in-law visited and saw the cute husky and I told them his name, then Melissa said “Why don’t we call him “Samy” and it was so, we named him Samy and he loved the name. Later on that week my dad would carry Samy up and down stairs because of his terror. Until one day my grandpa had a fish fry on the kitchen counter and with all the urge for it from the smell, Samy got the courage to go down the stairs and eat the whole fish diner then ran back up. Ever since he was ok with stairs.
Time passed and much love. Samy got a brother who was Blacky, a Puerto Rican Sato. They became inseparable and spent fourteen long loving years, we all did…
Samy was loving dog and while his later years he was in much pain, he never complained. We all love him and hope crosses the rainbow bridge to Blacky and all our other loved ones. May he find peace, he will forever be in our hearts and memories.
I love you Samy…
