I found him on a ghost hunt under the full moon in August 2005, a tiny ~3 week old kitten left behind in a barn at Rolling Hills Asylum. I thought he was a girl so I named him Luna. He was the cutest bottle baby and refused to give up the bottle easily. He was my first ever kitten, and a huge mamas boy with the biggest roundest eyes I’ve ever seen on a cat. He was stocky and loved food, especially tuna, in true orange cat nature. His tiny meows echoed his sweet disposition.

Luna’s last day was spent getting lots of love, feeling the grass and smelling the flowers. He visited his nana’s grave, how she adored him before she was called to heaven. He got his first and only pup cup and enjoyed it. He watched one final sunset before he left.

Walking into the vet to say goodbye, a big owl passed right over our heads. He clung to me and purred despite being so sick and in his least favorite place. On the way out of the vet, an orange hued ring circled the moon. He left on the 23rd of the month, just like nana, Daisey and Zootie all did.
